I recently found out that during pregnancy my body was consuming as much energy and under as much stress as a Tour de France rider – but for 9 months not just 23 days. A 2019 study by #dukeuniversity found that “human pregnancy consumes nearly the same amount of energy as an ultra-long endurance event but for a lot longer”. That’s mind blowing. Think about the team of supports these athletes access.
@droscarserrallach has been researching the impact on pregnancy and childbirth for years. His book on post natal depletion discusses the all too common and devastating impact on the overall health of a human due to the intensive reproduction process.
What I hear about is the loss of pleasure and intimacy that people experience post birth. These ruptures on intimacy and sexuality for individuals and couples can be devastating and can impact so much.
The alienation of our bodies after big changes and stressors is normal – my passion is to reconnect individuals with their changed emotional needs, physical bodies and their new pleasure states. Also working with couples to map out new ways to embrace these changes.
